Dr. Annika Vannan is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Banovich lab within the Bioinnovation and Genome Sciences Division at the Translational Genomics Research Institute. Her research centers on understanding lung biology with a specific focus on pulmonary fibrosis (PF). Her work leverages data from cutting-edge genomic technologies including single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing along with spatial transcriptomics platforms to understand the molecular underpinnings of this disease. In particular, using spatial transcriptomics technology allows Dr. Vannan’s work to address the regional heterogeneity of the lung and PF, providing unique insights into disease progression. Her research also extends to studying tissue samples from individuals who have gone on to develop PF, giving a unique “time capsule” view of the earliest stages of disease before symptoms start. Overall, Dr. Vannan’s work at TGen aims to combine diverse computational approaches to understanding complex disease.
