Dr. Ecca is a biologist whose research focuses on the etiological characterization of complex neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, and complex phenotypes, such as brain aging. His specific goal is to characterize genomic risk factors to identify novel clinical biomarkers. His work integrates multiomics approaches, including genomics, transcriptomics, and epigenomics, to uncover genetic risk factors and peripherical biomarkers associated with neurodegenerative processes, ultimately translating these genomic findings into precision medicine approaches.
He graduated in Molecular Biology from the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2014 and obtained a master’s degree in Functional Genomics from the University of Trieste (Italy). He then earned his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology from the University of Udine (Italy) in 2020. From 2020 to 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at IIT-CMP3VDA in Genova-Aosta (Italy), focusing on the role of transposable elements in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders. In January 2023, he joined the Huentelman Lab at TGen as a postdoctoral fellow.
