TGen, Software Firm Announce Co-location Startup

The first company to choose Arizona due to the Translational Genomics Research Institute is now in operation, according to officials with TGen and 5AM Solutions, a sophisticated custom software development firm.5AM Solutions was created as a result of the opportunities perceived in Arizona by its founders, Chief Executive Officer Brent Gendleman and Chief Operating Officer Rob Daly. Having previously founded and developed a successful, 50-person, Washington, DC-based custom software firm, 5AM takes the best of pragmatic software engineering practices and focuses them exclusively on building sophisticated web-based business solutions. Washington natives, Gendleman and Daly have opened offices at Central and Campbell.
"Everyone who helped establish TGen hoped the institute would bring new businesses to Arizona. Now we see that expectation was accurate. Im delighted to welcome 5AM Solutions to Phoenix. This co-location should be the first of many," said Richard Love, TGen Chief Operating Officer.
Key executives at 5AM Solutions have worked with TGen researchers in the past and wanted to continue that business relationship as well as pursuing new ones, said Brent Gendleman, chief executive officer at 5AM.
"We have great respect for the research being conducted at TGen and we know we can contribute to its success," Gendleman said. "The message of bench to bedside and sharper tools simpler methods captured our imagination and its a natural fit to our practice of simplifying the complex by building software that works to further discovery."
"We hope our contribution will help stimulate the success and growth of the bioscience industry here in Arizona. At the same time, we want to connect Arizona with the national biotechnology corridors where we have established relationships." Gendleman said.
Key engineers at 5AM have built solutions for the National Cancer Institute, Motorola, Chase, AOL and the United States Air Force, among other high profile clientele.
The presence of TGen and the International Genomics Consortium have created a bioscience momentum in Arizona and 5AM expects numerous business opportunities to unfold here, Gendleman added.
"It is wonderful to see this caliber of expertise attracted to Arizona from Washington, D.C. There is little doubt that this will be the first of many businesses to move to this area," said Dr. Dietrich Stephan, Director of the TGen Neurogenomics Division.
Along with the TGen Bioinformatics Facility, 5AM is working on a data-collection system for a national Microarray Consortium, a project chaired by Stephan and funded by the National Institute of Mental Health and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
