‘2018 Key to the Cure’ breakfast fashion show set for Oct. 5
TGen-Saks event aims to pass the $1 million mark for local cancer research
PHOENIX, Ariz. — Sept. 24, 2018 — Fueled by a milestone anniversary and the support of actress and breast cancer survivor Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the 2018 Key to the Cure breakfast fashion show at Saks Fifth Avenue in partnership with the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) is poised to break the $1 million mark for local women’s cancer research at TGen, an affiliate of City of Hope.
The show — featuring gourmet food, drinks, a designer-items raffle, and an exclusive peek at the latest fashions — is set for 8:30-10:30 a.m. Oct. 5 at the Saks Fifth Avenue, 2446 E. Camelback Road, at Phoenix’s at Biltmore Fashion Park.
This is the 9th year that the morning fashion show has benefited TGen.
“Guests will experience a morning of fun while raising the needed dollars to help TGen researchers and physicians find better treatments for patients with breast, ovarian and other cancers that afflict women the world over,” said Jan Lewis, one of three TGen event Co-Chairs, along with Lisa Portigal and Mary Ellen McKee.
Breakfast fashion show tickets are $150; and $1,500 for front-row Diva tickets, which include two premium seats, an exclusive gift and entry into a Diva-only raffle. All ticket-holders will receive a $25 Saks gift card. For more information or to RSVP, please visit: www.tgen.org/key or call 602-343-8411.
This year’s TGen breakfast fashion show is being held in conjunction with Saks’ 20th anniversary Key to the Cure and the Oct. 5-7 Saks Friends and Family Weekend. Saks will donate 10 percent of local weekend sales, up to $25,000, to TGen.
“This is such a special event because it recognizes the unique medical needs of the nearly 400,000 patients in the U.S. who are diagnosed each year with breast, ovarian and other women’s cancers,” said Erin Massey, Chief Development Officer for the TGen Foundation.
“Proceeds from Key to the Cure will accelerate the work of our scientists and physicians at TGen and City of Hope, bringing answers and hope to women across the globe,” said Massey, who also is Vice President of Philanthropy at City of Hope.
Louis-Dreyfus — whose iconic and award-winning roles include Elaine Benes on Seinfeld, Christine on The New Adventures of Old Christine, and Selina Meyer on Veep — is the public ambassador for this year’s Key to the Cure.
"I'm a breast cancer survivor, so that is a huge part of my involvement with Saks' Key To The Cure,” said Louis-Dreyfus, who also helped design this year’s Key to the Cure t-shirt, which reads, “We are fighters & we are fighting for a cure.”
All proceeds from sales of the exclusive $35 t-shirts — co-designed by Wes Gordon for Carolina Herrera, and available at Saks throughout October — will help the AiRS Foundation (Alliance in Reconstructive Surgery) provide post-mastectomy reconstructive surgery for breast cancer survivors who otherwise could not afford the procedures.
Past Key to the Cure ambassadors and designers include: Jennifer Lopez and Missoni, Halle Berry and Christian Louboutin, Jennifer Aniston and Peter Dundas, Gwyneth Paltrow and Karl Lagerfeld, and Heidi Klum and Michael Kors, among others.
"The 20-year success of Key To The Cure has been fueled by the generosity of our customers and commitment of our ambassadors, designers, partners and internal team,” said Marc Metrick, President of Saks Fifth Avenue. “It is incredibly rewarding to see the results ― close to $40 million has been donated to cancer research and treatment organizations throughout the United States."
