Evening of Trends gala raises more than $284,000 for TGen research
Trends board announces TGen as 2020 gala recipient; total donations eclipses $560,000 for TGen women and children programs
PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. — Jan. 15, 2020 — Trends Magazine and Trends Charitable Fund (TCF) raised more than $284,000 at their recent gala towards research into women’s cancers and childhood disorders at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen), an affiliate of City of Hope.
2019 marks the second year in a row that TCF’s gala benefited TGen. Evening of Trends 2018 raised $275,761 for TGen. Combined with the $284,984 in proceeds from Evening of Trends 2019, total donations now surpass $560,000. Also, the Trends’ Board of Directors announced that TGen will be the charity’s beneficiary for 2020; a third time in a row.
“It is truly remarkable what Trends Magazine and Trends Charitable Fund have accomplished for TGen on behalf of Arizona women and children,” said Erin Massey, Chief Development Officer at TGen, and Vice President of Philanthropy at City of Hope. “These private dollars enable TGen to leverage other donations and government grants, resulting in dramatic advances against devastating diseases and disorders faced by the most vulnerable amongst us.”
Specifically, Trends’ donations will advance TGen’s plans for a clinical trial to study new treatments for ovarian cancer, and to support TGen’s Center for Rare Childhood Disorders, including funds for genetic sequencing, which can help doctors diagnose TGen’s pediatric patients.
Funds that the Evening of Trends 2019 raised for the Center also generated an additional $100,000 in matching funds from The Dorrance Family Foundation, producing an even bigger impact on the lives of children treated by TGen.
“Our members and friends throughout the community really came through this year,” said Evening of Trends 2019 Co-Chair Vicki Vaughn. “We hoped to do more than last year, and we succeeded, helping TGen make an even greater impact on the lives of Arizonans, and those throughout the world.”
Honored at the November gala were Trends Magazine’s 2019 Trendsetters: Ivy Ciolli, Amanda Garmany, Abby Leadon, Tess Loo, Carrie Martz, Tiffany Quayle, Joan Raskin, Chrissy Sayare, Aimee Smith and Dee Dee Vecchione, along with this year’s “Fabulous Phoenician” Betty McRae, who contributed $25,000 towards the gala’s matching fund with The Dorrance Family Foundation.
Also recognized this year were members of the 2019 Trends Charitable Fund Board, including: Susie Wesley (President), Marilyn Alexander, Charlene Berge-Blum, Lee Courtney, Kim Cullum, Kathryn Petsas and Molly Stockley.
“Our contributors highly value TGen and how its research aligns perfectly with the goals of Trends Charitable Fund, which supports programs that lift up women, children and their families,” said Susie Muzzy, Co-Chair of Evening of Trends 2019.
Established in 1986, Trends Charitable Fund has granted more than $5 million to charities benefiting Arizona women, children and families.
